our story

2009. a dream is born.

Genesis Salon and Spa first opened its doors in 2009. DeAnna Clifton had a dream: to offer a special place for her employees to grow and achieve freedom in any way they desired. Whether creatively or financially, her longing was to offer a safe place, mentorship, and a feeling of family for those starting out in the industry who wanted to succeed.

As DeAnna’s dream grew larger, she had a vision for what Genesis Salon and Spa could be for her employees. She vowed to put Mobile, Alabama, on the map in the world of beauty. DeAnna knew she needed to keep sacrificing and push that much harder to see her vision become a reality. She converted to a Redken Salon, eventually earning the industry-coveted Black Elite Salon status. She also joined the Summit Salon family, opening the door of possibilities for Genesis. Meanwhile, Sarah Poiroux began her career at Genesis in 2010 as a bold, talented new stylist recently out of cosmetology school. Sarah wholeheartedly believed in DeAnna’s vision and wanted to be a part of the future of Genesis. Hungry for knowledge and possessing a passionate drive for the industry, they both attended every class they could. From Summit seminars, to classes at the Redken Exchange in NYC, and Las Vegas Symposium (becoming Redken Specialist, Master Specialist, and Redken Color Certified), DeAnna and Sarah became the duo to watch.

2017. A PARTNERSHIP BRINGS A DREAM TO REALITY.

It soon became clear that DeAnna and Sarah were opposite pieces that fit together perfectly to complete a beautiful vision. DeAnna invited Sarah to become her partner in 2017. With a renewed drive to succeed, their employees and new hires were attracted to a fresh culture of positivity and personal growth, flexibility and creativity in an atmosphere of solidarity. Today, Genesis Salon and Spa is thriving and still growing. As the largest salon and spa in Alabama, Genesis has expanded beyond its original location into a 6,500 square foot space beautifully designed by NYC’s Millard/Kwon Designs. Genesis has been featured on Redken’s website; showcased at numerous professional hair shows; and is sought out by clients and stylists alike for the experience and unique work culture. Throughout the years, DeAnna and Sarah have never lost sight of three important facts:

God has blessed them and entrusted them with enormous opportunity;
The talented team at Genesis are the ones who help keep this dream alive; and
When they work together, they can achieve the impossible!

Our Dreams

Over the past 15 years, Genesis has grown from its original beginnings of a sweet “small town feel” salon to its current 6,500 sq ft space, designed by top NYC team Millard/Kwon, featuring a 16-chair salon floor, 8 shampoo bowls, full-service spa, professional hair care retail space, and a separate clothing and gift boutique. Education, a positive work culture, and a focus on our guests' experience helps us live our dreams. Co-owners DeAnna (right) and Sarah (left) firmly believe that if you keep God first, be true to who you are and follow your dreams—no matter how far out of reach they feel—you cannot fail.
